Hummingbirds and Baltimore Oriole Feeders 2017

These birds are beautiful

This is a down to earth garden tip from Martin’s Pet and Garden Center.

It’s time to put out hummingbird and Baltimore Oriole feeders as these interesting birds return after spending the winter months in warm climates. Hummingbirds are attracted to yards with trees and shrubs which provide a place to nest, rest and escape predators. They feed on insects and nectar and an adult female can consume up to 2000 insects a day.

There are many styles of hummingbird feeders that hold sugar water which hummingbirds will come up close to feed on. Hummingbird nectars come in liquid concentrates, powders and ready to use liquids.

Baltimore oriole feeders should be put out early as orioles are hungry after they arrive from spending the winter in South America. They often build their next in all tall trees and feed on fruit, insects and nectar. Audubon’s oriole feeder holds nectar, grape jelly and an orange, all of which orioles are attracted to. Birdberry jelly is an all-natural grape/blackberry mixture that does not require refrigeration after opening.
