This is a down to earth garden tip from Martin’s Pet and Garden Center.
Summertime usually means more heat and humidity, which means lawns might need more water than what nature provides. When lawns stay wet for 8 hours or more at a time, lawn diseases can become active.
Dollar spot shows up as small tan spots in a lawn that can become numerous enough to cause larger patches to brown out. This disease only affects the blades of grass and not the roots or crown. Dollar spot can be more severe on nitrogen deficient turf.
Watering the lawn in the evening is not recommended for diseased lawns. Applying a high quality turf food such as Fertilome’s lawn food with iron will hasten a lawn’s recovery. Severe cases can be controlled by using a turf fungicide. Fertilome’s F-Stop is a systematic granular fungicide that should be watered in after it is applied and will last for 30 days.
